World Juniors 2011

On Sunday evening, we found out that there were tickets available to the semi-final games being played the next day.

This is all James Duthie's fault.

Buffalo is only about three and a half hours away. Tickets were twenty-five dollars. We all had the day off.

And Macke was in town.

Of course we went.

Noodles was heckled for representing her country. Henrik and Macke were the belles of the ball in their Canadian garb.

The games were exciting and amazing and the fans were insane.

We saw George McPhee and Dale Tallon (YES, DALE TALLON! THE REASON THE HAWKS WON THE CUP) yucking it up by a defunct pretzel stand.

Our seats for the semi-final against Sweden and Russia were right behind the only contingent of Swedish fans in the entire arena.

We listened to Whitney Houston on the ride up.

Macke and Henrik got to be present when Canada handed their sweet revenge on the USA boys.

The rest of us are happy that we didn't have to witness that beating in an arena of (some fairly arrogant) Canadian fans.

All in all, it was a blasty-blast. We can cross 'seeing a WJC game' off of our bucket list.

Here are some articles about the games we witnessed and the final games that took place last night.

- NHLers are upset about the loss and some express that in the locker room and others take to Twitter to make their sadness known.

- The Russian team was not allowed on their flight back to Russia because they were, as we Americans call is, shitfaced.

- Epic meltdown by the Canadians.

- Brayden Schenn was named the tournament MVP and Ryan Ellis was the top defenseman. Yayz!

- USA beats Sweden to get the bronze medal. Hey, at least they medaled...right?

- Blowout losses suck and the Americans understand that now.
